Summer, Please Don’t Go!

Well that went fast. Summer has nearly passed, yet it feels like there’s still so much to do. Drink more lemonade. Read all the books on your list. Skinny dip in the ocean. Send a handwritten letter in the mail. Sleep in as late as possible. Ride a roller coaster. And don’t forget: write that essay you’ve been meaning to write.

Luckily, there’s still another month, and come September 1st, Freerange Nonfiction’s own online magazine, FRESHLY HATCHED, will be open once again for submissions! Nonfiction, fiction, poetry, photography, graphic storytelling or illustration, we’re really less concerned about the type of genre and more interested in your version of your truth, in 3000 words or less. We accept what we find moving, unique yet universal. And, submissions should be previously unpublished. For more guidelines, click HERE.

You know what? We really love you. We also know how difficult it can be sometimes to find inspiration, or feel less alone, given the solitary life of a writer. That’s why we’re leaving you with this nugget of beauty and truth from one of our most beloved authors/teachers/animal lovers. In an exclusive Freerange interview, our own Marie-Hélène Westgate talks to author Jo Ann Beard about photogenic racoons, faith in self, and the road map of writing. See you come Autumn!

As ever,
